For the long weekend our friends the Roeders invited us and the Hollands to their parents' lake house. We enjoyed swimming, playing old school Nintendo and riding the off road vehicles. Plus some amazing cooking by Mallory! Fun times!

First Day of Kindergarten
Carter Wayne did great at his first day of school. He was excited and happy. Sawyer was enjoying it too and he wanted to stay. We stayed till they ushered us on out. I knew he was going to have a good day. When we left I swear Rodney was walking slow on purpose! I couldn't get to the van quick enough. Once inside I bawled my eyes out. Rodney said it was a happy day - we had gotten him to this point and he was ready. He said I should be happy I had an extra year with him. All true, but not what I wanted to hear! I had a good cry, then met Kari (Gabe's mom) and her daughter Abigail at Chick fil a. We ate breakfast and prayed for our boys' first day at school. I picked CW up in the car line (first and only time to do that mess). He had a wonderful day! He was so hungry and tired and had lots of stories to tell. So very thankful for a "purr- fect" first day!
Mom Fail # 820
This isn't pretty but I don't want to forget it. I have this idea of a line of first day of school pics lined up at the boys' graduation party someday. Great idea but when I try to control something with Carter Wayne, things always get ugly. The morning started great. Sweet boy had breakfast in bed with his daddy. We got ready and I wanted my sweet "first day of school pic". CW was determined to be silly and I was determined for it to be "precious". And 5 minutes later we were both in tears. Looking back I see we were both dealing with many emotions and being the same person we handled them by getting mad at each other. Not proud of it- but just keeping it real. Luckily things got better, but I want to remember that sometimes I just need to not worry about some perfect "dream" in my head and just enjoy the moment.
Kindergarten Orientation
The day before Carter Wayne started Kindergarten we had orientation. He was so excited to see his new class. He found his cubby and his table pretty quickly. We left him with Ms. Craig and went to a parents meeting where I cried. Rodney thought I was losing my mind. They just started talking about our babies and how they would take care of them. Too much for me. Year one of school is the beginning of the end any way you look at it. I was so happy that he was getting to start school but so upset that our time together was over. Things will never be the same. But nothing ever is... I was so glad that the orientation went so well and Carter Wayne was so excited about school. That is what matters, not my broken heart. ;-)
And the winner is...
Ms. Craig! We were excited to get this post card from our new Kindergarten teacher. Carter Wayne liked that her last name was the same as Uncle Craig's first name. Whatever floats your boat. I began praying for Ms. Craig immediately. I lost sleep on whether or not to call to let her know to call him Carter Wayne. I mean I don't want to be "that mom". But my best friend Ashley reminded me that anything I could do to make his first day easier, I should do. So I called the school and they were wonderful about it. They were so sweet that when I got off the phone I burst into tears. I was so thankful he was going to such a great school. Emotional much, Momma???
DQ and the Pool
The last few days of summer we soaked in two of our summer favorites - the pool and the Dairy Queen. On the weekends we would stop for a snack at DQ and then head down the road to our pool. Sweet times and sweet memories!! We had a great summer!
